ChronOtter uses cookies and similar technologies for ads and measurement.

Privacy Policy (ChronOtter)

Effective date: January 15, 2025

ChronOtter ("we", "our", "us") is a Foxroy product. We build timing tools (countdown, stopwatch, alarms, world clocks) available at chronotter.com and as an installable PWA. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it.

What we collect

Usage data (analytics)

Page views, events (e.g., start/stop timer), device/OS, approximate location (city/region), referrer, and technical diagnostics. Collected via Google Analytics 4 (GA4) using a random ID. We do not use GA4's User-ID feature and we do not collect names, emails, or precise location.

Local app data

Your timers, alarms, presets, settings are stored on your device (local storage/IndexedDB). We do not receive this data unless you explicitly send it to us (e.g., via support).

Contact messages (optional)

If you contact us, we'll receive the information you provide (message content, timestamps, technical headers).

Cookies and similar tech

Essential

Needed for security and basic functionality (e.g., remembering PWA install state).

Analytics

GA4 may set first-party cookies or use local storage to measure usage.

Advertising (future)

If we enable Google AdSense, additional cookies may be used to measure ads and limit repeats. We will gate ad tags behind consent where required.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. For GA, you can also use Google's opt-out add-on.

Why we process data

Provide and improve features, fix bugs, measure performance, prevent abuse, and (if enabled) operate advertising in compliance with policy and law.

Legal bases

PIPEDA (Canada)

We collect only what's reasonable for the stated purposes.

GDPR (if you're in the EEA/UK)

Our bases are legitimate interests (analytics, security) and consent for any non-essential cookies/ads.

Data retention

GA4 data is retained for up to 14 months (aggregate reports may persist longer). Contact messages are kept as long as necessary to support you. Local app data stays on your device until you clear it.

Children

ChronOtter is not directed to children under 13 (or the local age of digital consent). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Sharing

We don't sell personal information. Service providers may process limited data on our behalf (e.g., analytics, hosting). If AdSense is enabled, Google may process data as an independent controller for ads measurement/personalization depending on your settings/consent.

International transfers

Data may be processed in countries other than yours (including the United States). We use reputable providers and safeguards appropriate to the data.

Your controls & rights

  • Use your browser controls to delete cookies and site data.
  • Opt-out of analytics via the GA add-on or consent banner (where available).
  • If you're in Canada/EEA/UK, you can request access, correction, or deletion of personal data we hold about you (typically limited to contact messages and server logs). See Contact below.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new effective date.
